The late Mr. Abraham (Mannie) Gien started drilling on his farm in the Groot Marico area in the 1940s. The Giens then imported their first compressed air drilling rig from America in 1964 and 1966 respectively β marking the beginning of a family legacy that continues to this day.
Peter Gien saw an opportunity to adapt and market a Down the Hole hammer for the South African market. He modified the first hammer in his workshop on the family farm β and so P.G Drilling Equipment was born. A truly South African innovation.
"After Peter's untimely passing, brothers Barn and Sakkie continued drilling and manufacturing hammers to keep his legacy alive. In 1972, the MK1 was designed, patented and manufactured by Barn and Manny Gien β while Sakkie drilled and tested every new hammer."
β The Gien family, GermistonThe MKII, Mamba, Rock Buster and many other models soon followed. Today, our Research and Development department, led by Barn Gien, continues working on horizontal hammers, tubeless hammers, rock drills and other innovations. Our offices and factory are based in Germiston, Johannesburg, where every hammer and spare part is still manufactured on-site.
PG hammers are trusted by drillers from South Africa to Scandinavia and the Americas. Our patented designs perform in every geological condition.
